Michael Beale tipped to sign former Rangers player at QPR

There are mixed emotions as Leon Balogun heads for the Rangers exit door but one report suggests he could yet be offered a reprieve by Michael Beale at QPR.

The Nigerian international has proven a popular and influential player over two seasons at Ibrox but this week the club opted against agreeing a new deal, despite Balogun’s very public appeals about staying.

This came after Connor Goldson opted to stay at the club and with John Souttar also joining up with the group ahead of the new season.

It’s sad to see Leon go but with a wide-array of options at centre-back, including Filip Helander and Leon King, the club’s budget constraints probably mean the money could be better spent elsewhere.

Leon Balogun linked to Queens Park Rangers and Michael Beale

Now, attention for Leon Balogun will turn to where he moves next and the Daily Record suggest a reunion with ex-Gers coach Beale at QPR is a distinct possibility.

Michael Beale is in his first job in management at Queens Park Rangers and there is excitement building regarding the popular assistant coach’s project in West London.

Signings will be made and if defensive reinforcements are sought then Beale could certainly do worse than the 33-year-old defender.

A 45-cap Nigerian international who is clearly a positive and inspirational presence to those around him, the only drawback to signing Leon Balogun at English Championship and QPR level is his propensity to pick up little niggles.

The links also comes after Michael Beale took to Twitter to praise the contribution of Leon Balogun at Rangers, urging the defender to “take a bow”.

Maybe Michael Beale will take Leon Balogun at QPR but whatever happens next for the defender Rangers fans will almost certainly be keeping a close eye on Leon’s post-Ibrox career.

Meanwhile, a former Rangers star has sparked Ibrox return rumours with a message on social media.
