Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos picked up his third red card in four games against Aberdeen last night after a clash with Scott McKenna – but Dons boss Derek McInnes’ post-match comments show just how crazy the SPFL can be.

After being asked during Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage his view of the red cards the Dons boss was reluctant to comment without seeing the incident again.

Just seconds later though he admitted that he hoped the Scottish FA wouldn’t – again – rescind Morelos’ card.

Maybe McInnes was just couching his initial response but it seems crazy to then follow up with an appeal not to have the card rescinded.

Incredibly, McInnes thought McKenna was naive when he kicked the Colombian striker in the face.

Anyone that watched Sky’s live coverage will have heard co-commentator Andy Walker say it was a the wrong decsion to dismiss Morelos.

When Andy Walker is sticking up for a Rangers player then you know something ridiculous has happened.

There seems to be a real effort being put into hindering the Gers recently with McInnes’ comments and Steve Clarke’s calls for Jermain Defoe to be banned.

It wouldn’t come as anything of a surprise to see Morelos’ red card appealed and ultimately rescinded.

Hopefully, the SFA also have a word with managers and bring an end to the recent trend of trying to get players banned via the media.
