Rangers loanee George Edmundson will make his debut for Derby County when they face Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow night – and the England icon is delighted the defender is finally available following his deadline day move.
Edmundson has missed both of Derby’s games since heading south as he recovered from a hip injury but will be involved against the Chairboys tomorrow night.
The Rams boss confirmed Edmundson’s availability and admits the Rangers loanee is “itching” to play for the first time since facing Motherwell in September.
“He has been training in the last few days, he will be involved in the game against Wycombe which is great it gives us another option,” Rooney said, [Derbyshire Live].
“He has been good in training and it will be good for him, and the team to have him involved. He hasn’t played a lot of football in the last couple of months so we have to manage him right.
“He is itching to get out there and play. He gives me another option whether I want to use him in defence or in midfield.”
Edmundson isn’t likely to start but could go head-to-head with future Ibrox midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh as the Bournemouth ace sees out the season on loan at Wycombe.
Rather than preparing to face Wycombe, Edmundson could have been getting ready for a Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp this week instead but for his Covid breach.
