Preston manager Alex Neil has confessed that he is “very confident” that reported Rangers target Daniel Johnson will remain at Deepdale.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox recently, with ex-Ger Andy Little claiming the Preston star was “keen” to move to Ibrox.
Neil insists that doesn’t appear to be the case however, meaning Rangers may have to move on to alternative targets before the transfer window closes in just over a week.
“All of that has gone away, thankfully,” Neil said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.
“We are hoping it continues that way. If you said to me right now, ‘how confident am I?’ I am very confident that none of the lads will be away.”
The 27-year-old scored 12 times last season for the Lilywhites but missed the weekend clash with Norwich after picking up a groin injury.
Johnson has made one appearance this term so far, coming off the bench to net a 92nd-minute winner against Derby County in the EFL Cup.
With Rangers boss Steven Gerrard making no secret of his wish to add another midfielder to his squad before the October 5 deadline, the Gers boss may have to admit defeat in his bid to bring Johnson to Scotland.
As the Gers go into tonight’s Europa League clash against Willem II already missing Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo to injury, adding more bodies in midfield is vital for the Light Blues.
