Lech Poznan star admits meeting Rangers boss will be 'incredible'

Lech Poznan goalkeeper Filip Bednarek admits that meeting Steven Gerrard when his side face Rangers in the Europa League will be an “incredible experience” for him, after the sides were drawn together in Group D yesterday.

The Gers also have Standard Liege and Benfica in their group and the Polish keeper confessed that AC Milan or Tottenham would have had more “glamour” for his side.

Despite being the lowest-seeded side in the group, Bednarek thinks Lech could cause a few surprises, labelling his team the “dark horses.”

“We play Benfica, one of the biggest clubs in the world and Rangers who have the legendary Steven Gerrard on the bench as manager,” Bednarek said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“To meet the great Steven Gerrard will be an incredible experience for me.

“Standard Liege may be not as well known, but they are a big club who fight for the title every year in Belgium.

“I would have liked to have drawn AC Milan or Spurs for the glamour, but I think this draw gives us a real chance of continuing our European adventure.

“We are not afraid of anyone and I think we can surprise the teams in the group, especially at home.

“I think we are the dark horses of the group.”

Bednarek saved a penalty in the previous round as Lech beat another Belgian side, Charleroi, to secure their place in the groups and his side host Benfica on Matchday one before heading to Ibrox a week later.

With Rangers looking to continue their impressive European record under Gerrard, the former Twente number one will need to be at his best if they are to surprise the Gers.
