The latest story to come out of Rangers concerning the reported Covid-19 breach amongst the club’s squad suggests that there is much more than meets the eye regarding this tale.
Rangers fans aplenty have been outspoken about reports that four players – with Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey two of those named – were at a party over the weekend where ten fixed penalty notices were awarded by police for the breaching of Covid regulations [Athletic].

The Ibrox club would then confirm that they’re carrying out an “investigation” with regards the incident and made no further comment.
According to talkSPORT host Jim White, that will remain the case with the club not interested in humouring questions about this reported Covid-19 incident.
“Interestingly, on the Rangers situation, a fellow at the club told me this morning, ‘We’ve no intention of engaging on this issue,” said White, [talkSPORT 16/02/20].
“The first statement we made clearly said we will be making no further comment.’
“So Rangers have effectively shut this down.”
The comments are interesting for a few reasons – not least because of the severity with which Covid-19 breaches are treated in elite sport.
If the players are found to have breached protocols, then the SFA will almost certainly intervene to address this. So far this is not the case.
Rangers too were very forthcoming about the nature of the Jordan Jones and George Edmundson breaches, leading the narrative about this and detailing the situation to fans.
The club also suspended those two players whilst the powers that be gave them substantial seven-match bans.
Again, this has not been the case. Would the SFA really let Rangers off the hook if the situation was serious?
Rangers have been very much at the fore of the Covid protocols this season and it would remarkably surprising that the club – especially with an incident regarding youth players unlikely to feature heavily – would abandon this at this juncture in the campaign.
There’s certainly more to come from this and it’s still not clear what exactly happened.
Given those comments from White, we might never get the full story from Rangers regarding this incident – but were some blowing it out of proportion?
