In-demand midfielder could play for Arsenal 'standing on his head', pundit insists

Rangers legend Neil McCann thinks Ibrox midfielder Glen Kamara is good enough to return to Arsenal and play “standing on his head” after failing to make the grade at the Emirates as a youngster.

McCann brought Kamara to Scottish football when he was Dundee boss, plucking Kamara from the Premier League giants’ Academy system before the Finnish international moved to Ibrox in 2019.

Kamara has been outstanding for Rangers since his arrival two years ago and McCann insists he would stroll it in North London – but wants to see him stick around at Ibrox and help the Gers secure their first title in a decade.

“It’s ironic he left Arsenal because he was deemed not good enough. I believe he could play for Arsenal now, standing on his head – he’s that good,” McCann said, [Rangers TV].

“That boy has the ability to play at a very high level. He’s shown it for Finland and Rangers but I hope he doesn’t go anywhere because I want to see him be a success and he is standing on the edge of winning a title.

“It only took me five minutes with Glen. There wasn’t much to see in an Arsenal jersey, but he’s got the pedigree and I was looking for a footballer who could be brave, take it off the centre-back and build from the back under pressure.

“After five minutes I knew he was a player and we’d found one.”

Kamara only played one senior game for Arsenal before leaving the Gunners, a 3-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, featuring alongside the likes of Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Debuchy and Petr Cech.

The 27-times capped Finnish ace is reportedly being tracked by Benfica, as well as a host of Premier League clubs including, Leeds United, Brighton, Newcastle, Southampton and Burnley following his stunning form at Ibrox [TEAMtalk].

Given Arsenal’s form just now, it’s maybe not as high praise as it could be but there’s little question Kamara has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League – for Arsenal or anyone else.

Here’s how the Gers support reacted to the news one of the club’s most promising talents had signed a contract extension.
