Former Scotland manager Craig Levein has claimed St. Mirren manager Jim Goodwin is the “best young manager in Scotland by far” for the work he has done with the Buddies – and Rangers fans were quick to point out the job Steven Gerrard has done at Ibrox.

Goodwin is the only manager to have managed to get a win over Gerrard this season – knocking Rangers out of the League Cup in December – and Levein thinks he has done “remarkable” things in Paisley.

“They’ve got the best young manager in Scotland by far,” Levein said [BBC]. “I look at the challenges, they were the first club who had to deal with the Covid situation. They lost points which were then given back. For a young manager to deal with the situation the way Jim has is remarkable.

“His recruitment has been fantastic, he’s got a wee seam of Irish players. I hope they’ve got him on a long-term contract because there will be people knocking on the door shortly.

“If I’m at a football club right now and I’m looking for a young manager he would be top of the list.”

Rangers fans weren’t having it though and pointed to the 18-month gap in age between the two managers to make the very obvious case for Gerrard being the best young manager in the country.
