Glenn Middleton opens up on fierce competition for places at Rangers

Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has opened up on the added competition for places at Ibrox after Steven Gerrard’s new signings – and admits it is part and parcel of playing for a big club.
Gerrard has signed Steve Davis and Jermain Defoe while Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones penned pre-contracts.

The winger has burst onto the scene this season with a string of fantastic performances and is an important part of Gerrard’s squad.
Middleton insists the competition is welcome and admits he’ll need to take his chances when they come.
“The gaffer has brought in players for this window and for next season. I just have to make sure whenever I get a chance, I take it,” Middleton said, as quoted by The Sun.

“We all want to win the league and trophies, so anyone of quality who can help us do that will be welcomed.
“We are all competing for a start in this team, but that’s what happens at a big club like Rangers.
“We push each other on every day, but that helps you win things and that’s what we want to do.”

The Scotland youth international signed from Norwich last January and has made 25 appearances this season.
With five goals and five assists to his name, Middleton has quickly won over fans with his performances.

The addition of Jones will give Middleton direct competition for a place – although that could ease if Ryan Kent returns to Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard has repeated his desire to have two players in every position and this is another step towards that.
If Middleton continues to impress then he’ll have little to worry about over his place in the first-team.
