Rangers-linked Nigerian striker Josh Maja is yet to score after joining West Brom from Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux in the summer.

The 24-year-old forward moved to the Hawthorns against the backdrop of courtroom controversy in France, as Bordeaux appealed against the end of their Ligue 2 season.

Handed a defeat after a fan assaulted a rival Rodez player on the final day of the campaign, the result condemned Bordeaux to another season in the French second tier.

Appeals fell on deaf ears and the entire situation had a knock-on effect with Josh Maja under no obligation to sign a contract extension as a result.

This meant the forward was available on a free this summer, with Rangers one of the names most prominently mentioned alongside a Josh Maja transfer.

Josh Maja yet to score for West Brom

Josh Maja opted instead to move to West Brom for whatever reason but so far the ex-Sunderland man is yet to hit the back of the net for the club.

Having come off the bench in the club’s four Championship matches so far this season, heading into the international break Josh Maja is still without his maiden West Brom strike.

So far the Baggies have preferred Brandon Thomas-Asante to lead the club’s forward line and the striker has netted twice at the start of the Championship season.

It’s a long-old season in the English second flight and we suspect West Brom might utilise Maja more as the campaign goes on.

But as frustrations surround the £13m Rangers forward line, who’ve yet to exactly inspire an expectant Ibrox support, it’s interesting to consider that Maja hasn’t hit the ground running either.

The jury remains out at Ibrox on Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Cyriel Dessers and Danilo and time will soon tell if Rangers were right to let Josh Maja move to West Brom.
