Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has dropped a massive hint that Steven Davis will sign a permanent deal with the Gers this summer – and admitted that he thinks Davis will be at Ibrox next season.
The Northern Irish skipper has been on loan at Ibrox since January and will be a free agent in the summer when his Southampton deal expires.
Gerrard said that the Gers “cannot confirm” a permanent deal yet but reiterated his desire to keep the veteran around.
“I think he will be here next season,” Steven Gerrard has The Sunday World (14/04, p58).
“At this moment, we cannot confirm he will be here, but I want a fit and hungry Steven Davis in my squad.”
After returning to Ibrox in January, Davis looked to be a bit off the pace but is starting to look much more like the player who shone in his first spell with the club.
Keeping a “fit and hungry” Davis around will be great for the Gers but Gerrard will need to make sure that he doesn’t fall into the same trap as many veterans before him and think he can take it easy.
With next season absolutely crucial for Rangers, they simply can’t afford any passengers if they are to stop Celtic doing nine in a row.
