Steven Gerrard has expressed disappointment as he ruled out Lassana Coulibaly for tomorrow’s tie with FC Ufa and Sunday’s Old Firm.

It’s a massive loss for Rangers.

The Malian midfield “destroyer” had been a key part of the first XI which started the season so brightly.

A big part of Rangers style

Coulibaly’s energy in midfield fits makes a huge difference to Rangers. He is a combative, energetic force in midfield and the area doesn’t look quite as dynamic without him in it. Rangers have still been solid here, but the 22-year-old was becoming a big part of how we play.

Having Lassana Coulibaly back in time for the two biggest games of this early period, would’ve been a real bonus.

Rangers will just have to do it without him.

The Daily Record is reporting that Gerrard spoke about how the injury is more complex than originally thought. Gerrard side:

“Lassana is doubtful, very doubtful. The injury has come with more complications than we originally thought.

The physio and doctor are doing everything they can to get him back as quickly and safely but he is a big doubt for Ufa.

I am sure he’s frustrated and disappointed and so am I as a manager because he started so well and I want him available so I can pick him.”

It was earlier thought that the dynamic-midfielder would return to the starting line-up but it seems now he won’t make it.

Hopefully, even if the player misses the crunch tie v FC Ufa, he can return to action in the first Old Firm of the season on Sunday.
