Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confessed that he “didn’t expect” Jack Simpson’s signing to happen “so quick” after the defender arrived on deadline day from Bournemouth having already signed a pre-contract with the Light Blues.
Simpson and Scott Wright both arrived at Ibrox with minutes to spare at the start of the month and Gerrard admits that Simpson “has to be patient” as he waits to make his debut for the Gers.
Gerrard is confident both have settled in well at Ibrox already, calling them a “breath of fresh air” but it doesn’t look like Simpson figures into Gerrard’s starting XI plans immediately.
“Both Scott and Jack have settled in well,” said Gerrard [The Scotsman].
“Jack was outside the squad (against Kilmarnock) but his opportunity will come in the coming games.
“He just has to be patient. He was probably a signing we didn’t expect to happen so quick. Him and Scott have been a nice breath of fresh air.”
Both are registered in the squad for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp in Belgium and could feature in the last 32 tie.
While it seems unlikely either will start, having some new options in the squad will be a real boost for the Light Blues.
