Former Rangers star Lewis Macleod is set to sign for Wigan Athletic, according to a report, after leaving Brentford at the end of his contract.

The Sun reports Macleod will join Wigan as he looks to kick-start his career.

The midfielder had an injury-hit time at Griffin Park, managing only 43 appearances in four-and-a-half years after his move from Ibrox.

Macleod was sold for £850,000 after three years after bursting into the first-team following the Gers being booted into Division Three.

The former Ibrox midfielder won’t be the only ex-Ger at the Latics with Josh Windass and Joe Garner both at the DW Stadium.

Macleod was a big favourite during his time with Rangers, despite long spells on the sidelines injured, and fans will be hoping he can kick on and live up to expectations with a fresh start at Wigan.

While at Rangers, Macleod made 76 appearances for the Light Blues and scored 16 times before his surprise sale to Brentford.

Despite being highly-valued by the club, Macleod was sold well below his perceived value as the former board looked to claw back as much money as they could.

Although things haven’t gone to plan for Macleod in England so far, there’s no doubt that if he can stay fit he’ll be a vital player for Wigan.
