Former Rangers, Hearts, Scotland and Celtic defender Steven Pressley has claimed that Craig Gordon is the best he played with during his career – despite having played with Ibrox icon Andy Goram.
Pressley and Gordon were team-mates for Hearts and Elvis insists that Gordon could “makes saves the others couldn’t.”
The former defender admits that Goram was “special” but still – bizarrely – thinks Gordon was better.
“Craig is a top-class goalkeeper,” Pressley told the Edinburgh Evening News.
“He is the best I was fortunate enough to play with, an incredible keeper.
“When you mention Goram you are talking special goalkeepers but I genuinely believe Craig Gordon was the best I worked with.
“Because of his agility and size, he could make saves that others couldn’t.”
There’s no doubting Gordon is a quality keeper but there are few – if any – who have played in Scotland who can even come close to ‘The Goalie.’
Goram was, for a spell, one of the very best anywhere on the planet and rarely gets the credit he deserves for his ability.
Despite off-field issues and bad knees, Goram was that good for Rangers that Tommy Burns once quipped he would have ‘Andy Goram broke his heart’ inscribed on his tombstone.
If any club today had a keeper of Goram’s quality in their ranks, Scotland would have their undisputed number one for years to come.
