Former Celtic star thinks Ibrox new boy will 'love' Rangers

Former Celtic star Beram Kayal believes that Rangers new boy Leon Balogun will ‘love’ Glasgow after joining the Gers on a one-year-deal – and insists his ex-Brighton team-mate will cope in Scottish football “without doubt.”

The Israeli played alongside the defender during his time with the Seagulls and is confident that his experience in the Premier League and Bundesliga means he is well-prepared for anything Scotland has to offer.

Kayal also singled out two of Balogun’s new team-mates for praise as he called veteran stars Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis ‘good Premier League’ players – but it was his comments on the Nigerian international which are the most promising.

“Without doubt, Leon will be able to cope with football in Scotland,” said Kayal, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“He has played in the Bundesliga, the Premier League and the Championship. He is also a Nigerian international as well and has a lot of experience playing for his country. That will help him when Rangers play in Europe.

“Rangers have good Premier League players in Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis. They need to have that level of player when they compete in Europe. But Leon has experience of continental football and won’t be fazed by playing in the Europa League.”

After his spell in Glasgow, Kayal is confident his former team-mate at the Seagulls will ‘love’ Rangers and Glasgow.

“My dream as a footballer was always to play in the Premier League in England and I have done that with Brighton. It was a great time for me and my family. I think that Leon will love Glasgow and love Rangers.”

Balogun will wear the number 26 this season for Steven Gerrard’s side and could make his first appearance for the Light Blues against Coventry later today.
