Rangers could sign Lionel Messi tomorrow and some would still find fault.
After bringing Jermain Defoe and Steve Davis to the club this month, much has been said about their ages.
At 36 and 34 respectively, neither are likely to be at Ibrox for years but their ability is what matters.
Both come to Rangers with fantastic pedigrees and have the talent to light up the Scottish Premiership.
Yet some still want to focus on their date of birth rather than talent on the pitch.
Neither player has a reputation for simply coasting by and not keeping themselves in shape – Defoe looks better at 36 than most pros do at 26.
But, somehow two top-level stars are being largely disregarded because of their age.
There’s always a chance that any move can go wrong but with Defoe and Davis, the Gers have signed to fantastic professionals who have shown time and again the quality they possess.
Davis also knows what it takes to lift titles for Rangers, having done so before moving to Southampton in 2012.
Both players might not even be at Ibrox when next season gets underway so focusing on them not being long-term signings is daft.
Come May, if they’ve helped Rangers lift the title then their age will mean even less.
