Ex-Hearts loanee thinks reported Gers target 'great addition' for Rangers

Former Hearts Toby Sibbick thinks reported Rangers target Fashion Sakala would be a great addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad as he opened up on what his former team-mate would bring to Ibrox.

Sibbick played alongside Sakala for Oostende in the first half of the season after a stint on loan with the Belgians and insists he had a big future ahead of him.

The 13-times capped Zambian is also attracting interest from West Ham and Sibbick thinks he has what it takes to be a big success in Glasgow if Rangers make their move.

“I’m sure Fashion would be a great addition for Rangers,” Sibbick said [Daily Record].

“Fashion has a lot of pace and is direct on the ball.

“He can play as the main striker but also out wide and I know having played against Rangers last season they play with a front three so he can fill in on either wing because he likes to get on the ball and beat players one on one.

“He is quite tricky as well and is good in front of goal with the ability to finish with both feet, there’s no issue with that.

“He is powerful – not necessarily tall – but strong and quick so there’s a lot to his game.

“There are parts that he still needs to polish up on. Knowing when to pass is one.

“I told him this many times that if someone is in a better position to score then just slide it to them.

“That will come though. Oostende brought in Makhtar Gueye from St Etienne in the summer and while they don’t play as a pair they work well together.

“I saw West Ham and Rangers were interested in Fashion and I’d say he definitely has a big future.

“He is the talisman for Oostende. The guy they look to to make things happen.

“They want him tied down on a new deal but he wants to play at the highest level he can so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.”

Rangers and West Ham aren’t the only clubs said to be interested, either, with Belgian giants Anderlecht as well as Premier League side Newcastle also linked [Glasgow Live].

With the Gers set for a quiet month this month, pre-contracts appear to be what the Light Blues are looking at just now.

Whether Sakala does arrive at Ibrox or not is anyone’s guess just now but there definitely seems to be a talented player there.

Sakala will come up against the Gers’ Europa League Round of 32 opponents Antwerp on Saturday, who recently shot up the league table after an important win.
