Liverpool icon Sir Kenny Dalglish has insisted that Rangers need to be patient in their attempts to bring Ryan Kent back to Ibrox – because the European champions need the winger.
Kent has featured in Liverpool’s pre-season games so far this summer as their big names are given extra time off ahead of the new season, and the winger could also be part of the Anfield side’s squad for their upcoming US tour.
Rangers have made no secret of their wish to bring Kent back to Ibrox but Dalglish thinks they’ll just need to wait – but is sure Jurgen Klopp will be “helpful” when he can.
“He is a fine young player, and would be a major asset in their quest to stop Celtic winning nine league titles in a row,” Dalglish told the Sunday Post.
“However, for me, it’s perfectly understandable that Liverpool needs to look after themselves, first and foremost. I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will try to be helpful to Steven Gerrard whenever he can.
“We’ve seen that with the number of players who have made the journey from Anfield to Ibrox on loan since Steven became Light Blues manager.
“But Jurgen’s priority is his own team. And, right now, Klopp needs Kent.”
Kent’s return is probably the one thing Rangers fans still want this summer but the longer it drags on, the less essential it seems.
The winger would undoubtedly have a massive part to play if he does return but there are still a lot of options at Gerrard’s disposal.
Hopefully, Liverpool make a decision one way or the other though and save this dragging on much longer than it needs to.
