Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has responded after being quizzed on the possibility of a return to Ibrox, as quoted by the Daily Record.

The 34-year-old former Scotland international began his career with the Gers, making his debut in 2004 and going on to make 61 league appearances before leaving the club in 2009.

He’s spent the rest of his career England, helping Blackpool to the Premier League, before representing Liverpool and Stoke City.

After a brief stint as a free agent, Adam joined Reading in July 2019 on a one-year deal. He’s since made 25 appearances for the Royals but could be available again on a free in the summer.

However, he was coy when asked whether or not that could pave the way for a return to Ibrox.

“These decisions are never made by me,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.



He then went on to insist that he doesn’t harbour any regrets about leaving the Gers for Blackpool over a decade ago.

“It’s easy to say that [he left prematurely] now. But at the time Rangers had lots of midfielders and spent money on players that were going to play ahead of me.”

As a former player who is still operating at a relatively high level, Adam was always going to be asked whether or not a return to Rangers appeals to him.

Yet, it should be clear to most Bears that he’s not the kind of player the club needs right now.

Adam has an excellent left foot and since leaving Glasgow he’s gone on to forge a very good career.

However, his best days are now behind him. Steven Gerrard already has the likes of Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe to provide experience in his squad and now needs players with energy and legs as well as quality, if he’s to take things up a notch in the pursuit of silverware.
