Coventry City boss Mark Robins has admitted the chance to bring his side to Ibrox to face Rangers was too good to turn down – even it it “probably comes too soon” for the Sky Blues.
The two sides are at opposite ends of their pre-season programme as Rangers wrap up theirs by playing Coventry in their first friendly of the summer, meaning Robins is going to make use of his entire squad.

Despite that, it should be a good challenge for Rangers this afternoon and Robins can’t wait to bring his side to Glasgow.
“We’ve been training for about ten days now,” said Robins, speaking to the club’s website.
“The game itself probably comes too soon for us, but when you get the chance to play at Ibrox, it’s too good an opportunity to turn down.
“Everyone is looking forward to it. It’s not often you get the chance to do it and obviously up in Scotland you don’t see that much of the teams but you know the history and it lets us see where we’re at, at this stage.
“They’re a week away from their season starting so they’re going to be a lot further on than us, so we will be playing two teams in the game.”
New signing Leon Balogun could make his first appearance for Steven Gerrard’s side as they look ahead to next weekend’s season opener away to Aberdeen.

With Coventry coming off the back of promotion to the Championship, their players will no doubt be looking to make a strong start to pre-season against a Gers team who have impressed in their recent games.
Gerrard’s starting XI is likely to closely resemble how they’ll line up at Pittodrie so it should be a worthwhile afternoon for both sides.
