Celtic victory ensures Rangers carry outstanding statistic into 2020

Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 win over Celtic has ensured that Rangers will carry an incredible statistic into 2020.

Goals from Ryan Kent and Nikola Katic were enough to see Celtic off on their own patch, ensuring that the Gers are still unbeaten away from home in the league this season.

To date, Rangers’ record on the road reads as 11 games played, 9 wins, two draws and 0 defeats [Soccerstats.com]. The only two slip-ups have come at Hearts and at Aberdeen.

That’s a very fine record by anyone’s standards and it reflects a dramatic improvement on the road in comparison to last season.

Steven Gerrard’s side established a reputation for being vulnerable on their travels across 2018/19, losing away to the likes of Livingston and Kilmarnock (Twice).

However, this campaign, defensively, the Gers have been more solid. Three of the club’s last four matches have been away from Ibrox and the only goal conceded in that time came off Odsonne Edouard’s hand.

By way of comparison, Celtic have lost one and drawn one on the road, but have played two fewer games.

That disparity will be addressed following the winter break when four of Neil Lennon’s side’s next five league matches are away from home.

Following yesterday’s thoroughly-deserved result, Rangers are extremely well placed.

Steven Gerrard set his side up to do a job on Celtic at Parkhead and he deserves immense credit for masterminding both that win and several other excellent away results across the first half of the season.
