Bitter Aberdeen legend brands Rangers new boy 'unnecessary distraction' for Dons

Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has insisted that a “clean break” would be best after Pittodrie winger Scott Wright agreed a pre-contract with Rangers – branding the 23-year-old an “unnecessary distraction” for Derek McInnes’ side.

Wright will move to Ibrox on a three-year deal at the end of the season and Miller believes that with clubs struggling for money, striking a deal for the former Scotland under-21 star this month is best for Aberdeen.

Miller cites the cost of developing Rangers as a reason the Dons should look to sell him and thinks his old side should look to claw some of it back this month.

“It’s a matter to be dealt with at board level and in these difficult financial times for clubs, it would make sense for the Dons if a deal can be wrapped up this month,” Miller said [Evening Express].

“Although Wright could still contribute for the Reds in the second half of this season, the 23-year-old he has made his mind up that he’s joining Rangers.

“Now that his mind is made up I think a clean break would be best for everyone.

“If the Scotland Under-21 international does remain at Pittodrie, where he is going next can be an unnecessary distraction in the background.

“That’s why a clean break this month may be best, but if a deal is to be struck it needs to one that suits Aberdeen.

“A lot of money is spent on youth development to bring through players like Wright, so the Dons will be looking for some kind of return as he moves on.”

Wright has prompted  a salty response from Aberdeen fans after his move was confirmed, following Ryan Jack in swapping Pittodrie for Ibrox.

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack was certainly happy to see his old teammate join the ranks at Ibrox as he took to Instagram to send him a special welcome.
