With yet another poor performance from the players, a man of the match is never a fun article to write. I would suggest my choice is pretty clear from Saturday as only one man played anywhere near their best on the day.

Wes Foderingham was the Rangers man of the match. When a goalkeeper wins that, it’s usually when the team gets the result but weren’t good on the day. On this occasion, it’s because he was the only reason Rangers didn’t lose by a bigger margin. The defending let him down throughout, and he had no chance with either goal.

In the first half, Foderingham didn’t have many saves to make. He was unlucky not to set up a goal with a great bit of distribution. His side-volley pass to Windass was inch perfect and should have led to a goal. He dominated the box with any incoming set pieces and would have been hoping the game would continue to be relatively straightforward for him.

In the second half, he was quickly called into action. His save from Kris Boyd’s header was top class, as he somehow got his hands to the ball low and scooped it over the bar. You could see the ex-Rangers striker almost laugh in disbelief just after it. He saved yet again from Boyd, this time getting a foot to a low strike to his left. At this point, the match was still at 1-0, and as a fan, you hoped we were riding out a storm and would improve to see out the game. Sadly, that never transpired.

The defending for both goals left Foderingham with no chance. He made another decent save from Brophy, but couldn’t get close to the finishes from Boyd.

It’s been an inconsistent couple of weeks for Foderingham. He was excellent against Hibs, poor against St Johnstone, then done well again on Saturday. With the team performing nowhere near their best at the moment, he’s being called upon more often than he’d like. With the Motherwell and Celtic games coming up, I’d imagine that’s set to continue in the next couple of games. Hopefully, the team can pick up their level overall and take some pressure off of the goalkeeper.
