Yet, the German club haven’t played a match since the end of June, so the Gers will be hoping to catch them cold and pull off a stunning comeback.

UEFA rules ensure that Ianis Hagi, who was on loan at Ibrox last season, is the only one of Steven Gerrard’s summer acquisitions who is eligible for this fixture.

However, the manager still had a strong squad to chose from for the behind-closed-doors fixture at the BayArena.

Allan McGregor starts in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Borna Barisic.

In midfield, Ryan Jack and Steven Davis fill the deep-lying roles, with Glen Kamara suspended.

Occupying more advanced positions are Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Brandon Barker, with Barker a surprise inclusion ahead of Ianis Hagi.

Meanwhile, Alfredo Morelos leads the line despite the speculation surrounding the player’s future.

Is this team good enough to overturn a sizeable first-leg deficit?

Plenty of Bears aren’t happy with the XI and have expressed their disappointment on social media:
