Goldson has been a regular in the Rangers team since his arrival from Brighton in the summer of 2018 and remarkably, he’s played every minute of the club’s 17 matches this season.

Whether it’s Premiership or Europa League action, the Englishman is one of the first names on the teamsheet and his manager is delighted with his durability and form.

“No one is undroppable but I think Connor has proved over the time that we’ve been together that he’s very robust,” said Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV. “His body is used to that now and I think Connor is someone who, certainly with the heart issue he had, is desperate to make up for lost time in terms of playing.”

“I’m really happy with Connor. I think he’s in a fantastic place physically and mentally at the moment. He’s becoming a leader, his communication is better.

“So, I don’t see any reason right now to drop him or rest him or offload him because he’s in such a good place.”

Gerrard praises Rangers defender Connor Goldson and drops selection hints – Verdict

Gerrard has been keen to rotate Filip Helander and Leon Balogun, but Goldson has been the constant at the heart of the defence over the early part of the season.

Games are coming thick and fast at the moment and with almost every other player’s workload being managed, some may have felt a rest was on the horizon for the 27-year-old.

However, the manager’s comments here hint that he’ll continue in the team – barring any unforeseen circumstances – until the November international break.

Goldson was always a shoo-in for the trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday, but it looks as though the intention is also to deploy him in Benfica next Thursday night and at home against Hamilton three days later in the league.

As one of the few non-internationals in the squad, the centre-back will then be afforded a break as many of his teammates jet off to represent their respective nations.
