Rangers duo named in Scotland squad for crucial World Cup playoff clash

Rangers duo Ryan Jack and John Souttar have been named in the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup playoff and Nation League fixtures.

Scotland face Ukraine at Hampden on June 1 with the winner going on to face Wales in the final for a place at the World Cup, before three Nations League fixtures.

Rumoured Rangers target Ross Stewart is also included for the squad as Scotland sit just 180 minutes from a return to the World Cup finals.

Rangers keeper Jon McLaughlin has once again been left out with St Johnstone’s Zander Clark, Craig Gordon, Liam Kelly and David Marshall all in the squad.

As well as Liam Kelly, there are another couple of former Rangers youngsters in the squad with Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson both named by Clarke for the upcoming fixtures.

Souttar inclusion a surprise given lack of games for club and country ahead of Rangers move

Clarke’s decision to include Souttar is a bit of an odd one, not because he doesn’t deserve it, but he has often overlooked the defender in favour of others.

When you add in that Souttar has played one full game since March – Saturday’s Scottish Cup final – then it seems a surprise to see him named by Clarke.
