Rangers duo named in NI squad for Nations League fixtures

Rangers duo Steven Davis and Jordan Jones have been named in the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games with Norway and Romania – with Davis set to equal Pat Jennings Northern Irish record of 119 caps.

The Ibrox pair are joined in Ian Baraclough‘s squad by three former Gers players with Shane Ferguson, Jordan Thompson and Kyle Lafferty also selected.

Both have been on the fringes of Steven Gerrard’s starting XI this season with Davis making his first league start on Saturday against Kilmarnock while Jones is yet to be involved.

Northern Ireland are in League B Group 1, with Austria the fourth team in the group, for the second edition of the Nations League as it gets underway behind closed doors.

Jones could make his first appearance for Northern Ireland since June 2019 after a serious knee injury sustained in his Old Firm debut for Rangers kept him sidelined before Coronavirus put a halt to any football for months.

Baraclough’s side will travel to Bucharest to face Romania on 4 September before returning to Belfast and Windsor Park three days later.

The Northern Ireland boss will take charge of the side for the first time since moving up from the under-21s and replacing Michael O’Neill in June.
