Rangers star Borna Barisic thinks his stunning Rangers transformation has helped make him a regular for Croatia – and the full-back reckons he’s having a “really great season” so far this term.
The defender really struggled after his move from NK Osijek last summer and looked destined for the Ibrox exit door before turning things around and becoming one of the first names on Steven Gerrard’s team-sheet.
After finally nailing down a regular place at Ibrox, Barisic believes that consistency has helped him become first-choice at international level for the beaten 2016 World Cup finalists.
“I don’t like to talk about myself, but all I can say is that I think I am having a really great season at Rangers,” Barisic said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“I have played all the matches and they have been every three or four days continuously for months and I feel great. In terms of my personal performances, I have provided a lot of assists and I’ve scored too.
“There’s no doubt playing with Rangers at this level of consistency has helped me greatly with Croatia too.”
Barisic looks like a different player to the one who struggled to make an impact last season, but he’s really starting to show his quality for Gerrard’s side.
If the Croatian can maintain his form then it wouldn’t be a surprise if clubs started sniffing around the talented defender.
Playing for Croatia should really help him keep his standards up and playing with players such as Luka Modric can only help him continue to excel.
