Rangers Academy stars dominate Scot Gemmill's Scotland U21s squad

Seven current Rangers Academy graduates have been named in Scot Gemmill’s Scotland under-21 squad for the upcoming Euro under-21 qualifiers against Croatia and Greece.

Brian Kinnear, Robby McCrorie, Lewis Mayo, Nathan Patterson, Kai Kennedy, Ross McCrorie and Glenn Middleton have all been named in the squad  – with the McCrorie’s dropping out of the senior squad.

Gemmill’s side won both of their games earlier this month to put themselves in with an excellent opportunity to reach the finals as they approach the final two games of the qualifying campaign.

Scotland trail leaders Czech Republic by a single point, having played a game less, with Croatia one point further back meaning two wins would guarantee the young Scots top the group.

They have only conceded two goals in the qualification campaign thus far – a record which is only bettered by one other of the 55 nations vying for a place at the Euros – Spain.

Kai Kennedy’s inclusion is his first with the under-21s and comes just after he made his debut for Inverness CT after his loan move from Rangers with keeper Brian Kinnear also receiving his maiden call to join the under-21s.

The Scots play Croatia on November 12 at Tynecastle before taking on the Greeks in their final qualification tie five days later in Athens.
