Four Rangers Academy stars were involved earlier today as Scotland under-19 picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over Gibraltar in Zagreb in European Championship qualifying.

Adam Devine, Alex Lowry were both named in Billy Stark’s starting XI while Rangers teammates Cole McKinnon and Jay Hogarth had to make do with a place on the bench.

It was Lowry who opened the scoring, firing home a free-kick after 26 minutes before Blackpool’s Robert Apter doubled the lead just before half-time.

After the stunning collapse a few days ago against Armenia that saw Scotland lose 3-2 after leading 2-0 with 30 minutes left, there didn’t seem to be any chance of a repeat as Stark’s side continued to dominate the game after the break.

The Scottish forwards were peppering the Gibraltar goal with shots looking for a third goal to put the game out of side but it took 30 minutes to finally break through the dogged Gibraltar defence, Everton youngster Luke Butterfield scoring in 77 minutes to make it 3-0.

With the game over, McKinnon was handed the final seven minutes to impress, replacing Apter, as Scotland saw out the win in their second of three games.

Stark’s side face Croatia in their final fixture on Tuesday morning as they look to secure a place in the next round of qualifying ahead of the finals next year in Romania.
