Rangers fans have rejoiced after Steven Gerrard declared Borna Barisic available for selection ahead of the Europa League first-leg tie against Braga, as captured by RangersTV.

Barisic had sat out of the matches against Kilmarnock and Livingston, after picking up a knock in the 4-1 Scottish Cup Fifth Round win at Hamilton earlier this month.

However, it appears that he’s shaken off the problem just in time to start against the Portuguese visitors.

“Really good,” responded Gerrard when asked to appraise his squad’s fitness levels, as captured by RangersTV.

“Borna did the majority of yesterday’s [Tuesday] session and he’s obviously come through this morning’s [Wednesday] session, so he’s available for selection tomorrow.

“That’s the only added name to as it was.”

Gerrard’s update means that he has a full set of players to choose from, other than Jermain Defoe and Filip Helander, although the latter had already been removed from the extended Europa League squad due to the longer-term nature of his injury.

Andy Halliday has made a decent fist of deputising at left-back over the last few matches, but Barisic is undoubtedly the club’s best left-back, so it’s a major boost to have him back fit.

One of the stars of the Europa League group stages, he helped keep things tight at the back, while also playing a major role in the final third, assisting four goals.

Unsurprisingly, then, Bears rejoiced at the manager’s update.
