Rangers boost as rivals dealing with injury woes ahead of clash

In a boost for Rangers, Lyon are dealing with a number of injury issues ahead of the Europa League fixture between the sides early next month.

Peter Bosz’s team have been relentless so far in Group A, winning all five of their fixtures.

They eased to a 2-0 win at Ibrox on the opening night and then defeated both Sparta Prague and Brondby home and away.

They’re already safely through to the Last 16 and Rangers have secured the runners-up spot in the group but there’s still significant UEFA prize money up for grabs and the French giants will be looking to make it a perfect group stage effort with a sixth consecutive win.

Bosz won’t have a full squad to pick from, though, with a number of players expected to miss out through injury.

Attacking midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide and forward Lenny Pintor are long-term absentees with knee injuries, while Sinaly Diomande and captain Leo Dubois are both also likely to miss out.

Centre-back Diomande featured against the Gers at Ibrox but he’s set to be out for up to a month with a badly sprained ankle, while right-back Dubois should be sidelined for a similar period [Sports Mole].

Summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri also looks set to be short of playing time going into the match, as it’s almost a month since he last featured.

Here’s how much prize money Rangers secured with their recent Europa League win over Sparta Prague at Ibrox.
