Steven Gerrard provided an exciting injury update on Ryan Jack on Friday morning, as captured by RangersTV, with the crocked Rangers star’s comeback seemingly imminent.

Jack has been out with a calf problem since 26 January, when he was replaced at half-time during the defeat at Hearts.

He’s since missed games against Ross County, Aberdeen and Hibernian, and although he won’t be involved in the Scottish Cup fixture on Saturday, he should soon be back in contention.

“He [Jack] is close, but Hamilton is just a little bit too soon,” said Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV.

“All being well, there’s a possibility he could be in training on Monday. All being well.”

The manager also asserted that no players had picked up knocks during Wednesday night’s win over Hibernian and that he had the same squad to choose from for the Fifth Round clash.

Verdict

Jack’s continued absence from the side is certainly far from ideal, given how prominent a role he played over the first half of the season.

However, Bears will be relieved to see that he’s on the mend and on the verge of contention for playing time.

If he returns to training as scheduled on Monday morning, he may be fit enough to make the bench for Wednesday night’s trip to Kilmarnock, and would subsequently come into contention for a start at home to Livingston three days later.

For the time being, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo make up the midfield options, and the three picked in the middle against Hamilton will be looking to control the tie and help to secure progression.
