Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hailed his players after a “perfect” start to the Europa League group stage with two wins from two games after beating Lech Poznan 1-0.
The Gers boss admits getting the win was “big” going into next week’s clash with Benfica and insists that his players will have confidence they can get a result in Lisbon.
Gerrard credited his payers after giving “everything” against Lech as Alfredo Morelos drew level with Ally McCoist as the club’s all-time record European goalscorer.
“It’s big,” Gerrard told BT Sport. “The players have done everything that we’ve asked of them tonight, they’ve emptied it and given us everything they’ve got and it’s the perfect start so far.
“We all know the quality of Benfica, top-class players all through the squad and it will be two really hard tests but we’ll go there with belief and confidence we can get something out of both games.”
Before Rangers can focus on Benfica though, Gerrard’s side have a trip to Kilmarnock in the league this weekend.
After opening up a six-point lead in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers can’t afford a mistake this weekend against Alex Dyer’s side.
With the Gers again going a full game without conceding as much as a shot on target, confidence should remain high after a win and shutout.
