As the search continues for the next Rangers manager, I bring you the runners and riders most likely to get a look in, this time around. Along with a few wildcard picks. Along with each contender, I have left my views. Let me know what you think as always.
ALEX MCLEISH – Former Ibrox boss. Ticks the boxes on two things. Cheap and safe, not for me, game has passed him by I’m sorry to say.
STEVE MCLAREN – The wally with the brolly. By all accounts is a tremendous coach. But question marks linger over his leadership skills, and the fact he couldn’t handle the pressure of Newcastle, would melt in the pressure cooker of Glasgow.
SLAVEN BILIC – He’s available and out of work, that’s a start right now. Knows the British game, and might fancy rebuilding his reputation after West Ham.
CHRIS WILDER – Has worked wonders at Sheffield United. Questions on whether he would leave the club he played for twice. Could be seen as a progressive appointment.
TOMMY WRIGHT – Probably taken St Johnstone as far as they can go, can see him taking the Northern Ireland job before us, however.
MORE RANGERS STORIES
BILLY DAVIES – Knows the Scottish game, downsides are that he can be extremely abrasive, has a short lifespan at clubs. Must question his eye for a player also, as he signed yours truly for his boys’ team.
NEIL MCCANN – Need some ex-players on the list. Did okay at Dundee, would be a massive risk appointing someone so inexperienced.
GIO VAN BRONCKHORST – First of a Dutch trio, would be a great fit. Can see no reason why he would leave his current job , where he is secure and moulding a side in his vision.
RONALD KOEMAN – Not convinced in his ability or that we could afford him. Was linked with Barcelona job only 9 months ago.
FRANK DE BOER – Most fans choice. Has struggled recently at Inter and Palace, but knows the Scottish game. Can’t see us landing him or him wanting the job.
GRAEME MURTY – If nobody else wants it Murty does. I personally feel it’s just too soon for the job on a full-time basis. Has handled himself with dignity and class.
JACK ROSS – Would be a brave choice. Young up and coming manager. Worked at Hearts before taking St Mirren job.
AITOR KARANKA – Ex-Boro gaffer. Did well in the Championship, struggled in the Premier League. Always seemed to be on the verge of quitting, and that with a Chairman who’s well thoughof, , wouldn’t last long up here.
ANGE POSTECOGLOU – Ex-Australian head coach. Out of the box hire, after Pedro would represent a big gamble from the board, one I’m not sure they can afford.
TONY PULIS – Out of work and would be a favourable choice for many. Great at making teams hard to beat.
KENNY MILLER – Most likely already has a say on the team at present, might even drop himself if he got the job.
BIG FAT RON (BFR) – Just when you thought the banter years were coming to an end. So why not go get Ron Atkinson in, complete with his aviator shades and camel coat. Has experience in British football. Never a dull moment with big Ron around. Just think of the pre-match press conferences.
