I’m going to hazard a guess I’m not the only fan wondering what the hell is going on at Rangers, six weeks have passed and we still haven’t appointed a new manager. With news of Rangers approaching Aberdeen for permission to Derek McInnes and subsequently being knocked back. After what seems the worst kept secret in Scotland, we have finally made our move to replace Caixinha.
It still baffles me that the Aberdeen manager was clear favourite to take over the vacant position, yet its only in the last few days we have made the approach. Many factors could explain the wait, we were told the board would be taking applications for the job and Mark Allen the Director of Football, would be overseeing the application process.
The silence from the board has been deafening and leading to many rumors as to why it’s taken so long, money could easily be an issue, along with the fact we had a double header against Aberdeen surely didn’t help matters. As great as the two victories over the Dons was, it surely put McInnes under an immense amount of pressure and this was evident during the game at Pittodrie, where he forgot his starting lineup live on tv.
Its reported Derek was in talks with the Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne trying to secure his move to Rangers, also from what we have seen in social media and in the Scottish press, it’s clear the Dons fans now don’t trust McInnes to manage their team.
Personally, I’ve seen a mixed feeling of Rangers fans with regards to the possible appointment of Derek, some saying there is better available and some saying he’s the sensible choice, I’m firmly on the side it’s the best option currently and I’m surprised he wasn’t approached when Warburton left the club.
So, over the next few days I’m sure we will get an answer, will Aberdeen cave in and give us permission or will Derek have to tender his resignation to force the move through? The ill felling between both set of fans is only getting worse and it will lead to some interesting fixtures in the near future. I for one can’t wait.
