Steven Gerrard’s side have been trailing the 26-year-old for a number of months but after spending the season on loan at the Robins, Kalas could make the move permanent.
Kalas made 42 appearances at Ashton Gate last season and after failing to make the breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, he looks set to leave this summer.
The defender is currently on international duty, despite claims he was undergoing a medical with Bristol City, but a move seems certain to happen sooner or later.
Steven Gerrard’s side is in need of at least one new defender as Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall leave the club at the end of their respective contracts.
Aidan Wilson or Ross McCrorie would be next in line at centre-back should something happen to either Nikola Katic or Connor Goldson so getting a new defender is a priority.
With only around six weeks until the Europa League campaign gets underway, there isn’t a huge amount of time for Gerrard to get someone in and acclimatised to his new surroundings.
Kalas really doesn’t seem like the sort of player that fits the profile for what Rangers need and it’s difficult to see any place for him at Ibrox.
The defender will be on a sizeable wage at Chelsea and would be among the top earners at Ibrox if he was to join the Light Blues.
Rangers would be far better served looking elsewhere and Kalas potentially going to Bristol is a bullet dodged for the Gers.
