Rangers have faced a pretty gruelling schedule so far this season –  but a rare midweek off can give the Light Blues the advantage in the title race.

With 43 competitive games under their belts this term, the chance to catch a breather and spend some more time on the training ground could work wonders.

While Steven Gerrard’s side get the chance to recover, title rivals Celtic will face a crucial Europa League clash with Valencia – their 46th game of the campaign.

Both sides face a hectic finale to the campaign and meet on March 31st at Celtic Park.

The opportunity is there for Gerrard’s squad to recharge their batteries again ahead of facing St. Johnstone on Saturday.

The addition of a Scottish Cup replay against Kilmarnock in nine days doesn’t help much however.

Fixtures have come thick and fast since the winter break ended and a few players already look in need of a chance to recover.

Playing Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday takes its toll and doesn’t allow players the chance to recover from small knocks and niggles.

Having a few extra days at the Auchenhowie should hopefully see Gerrard’s side look fresh this weekend.

The Gers could end Saturday just three points behind Celtic – who play on Sunday – and put some pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ side.

There won’t be many free midweeks between now and the end of the season so they should make the most of it.
