A lacklustre performance overall doesn’t lead to many great ratings for our players yesterday.

WES FODERINGHAM – 6

Not much to do overall, but did make a good save in the first half. His quick play created a good chance in the second half as well with a great ball to Candeias.

JAMES TAVERNIER – 6

Was frustrated today by the lack of space to run into. Hearts asked Lafferty to cover him for the entire game, which killed his effectiveness. A couple of decent crosses aside, this was one of his quietest games in an attacking sense.

FABIO CARDOSO – 6

With Hearts not playing expansively, Cardoso saw a lot of the ball as he was an easy option to pass to. His passing was somewhat predictable and square, often allowing Hearts to get back into shape easily. Won most headers and did well at set pieces defensively, but was too intent on giving the ball to Alves rather than looking for the runs in behind himself.

BRUNO ALVES – 6

Much like Cardoso, he saw a lot of the ball and didn’t have a huge amount to do defensively. Played a lot of longer balls in an attempt to speed up the play, but very few led to anything as Hearts sat so deep. Unlucky with a couple of headers from corners.

LEE WALLACE – 5

Never stopped trying to get forward, but rarely got the chance to get in behind. Crosses from deep positions never found teammates, and on the few occasions he got in behind his crosses were blocked.

DANIEL CANDEIAS – 5

Worked hard, but found space hard to come by. His crossing from open play and corners created some good chances. Overall, he wasn’t able to affect the game in the way we’ve seen him do so far.

RYAN JACK – 6

His role was made a little easier as Hearts didn’t press the game too high. Made some loose passes and played a little slow. A mediocre performance overall.

GRAHAM DORRANS – 5

Was subbed for Hardie after 72 minutes, and booked for a late challenge in the second half. Wasn’t able to got any sort of foothold in the game, and played a lot of passes backwards. Received the ball very deep too often, possibly a side-effect of our formation. The most conservative performance we’ve seen from him so far.

JOSH WINDASS – 5

The only time he knocked the ball past the full-back to run on to, he was heavily fouled, and never really seemed to recover. Taken off after 50 minutes, and the main thing we’ll remember from his game is the new haircut. Hopefully this is a game he learns from, as teams will often defend deep to nullify his pace.

ALFREDO MORELOS – 7

The best Rangers player on the day. His link-up play and strength created some good chances. Again, he was fouled with no reward, and it’s clear he’s still learning some of the tricks strikers need to employ to win more fouls than they concede. Never really had a great chance to score, unfortunately.

KENNY MILLER – 5

Had the best chance of the game and should have scored, but overall his game was poor. He had a number of passes and crosses cut out and was caught on the ball with his back to goal more than once. His leadership and will-to-win just weren’t enough yesterday.

SUBS

NIKO KRANJCAR – 4

Only on for 40 minutes, but struggled to get up to the pace of the game. Had a couple of weak efforts at goal from outside the box, and his passing was uncharacteristically poor.

RYAN HARDIE – 4

Played the final 20 minutes or so, and had a couple of chances. That aside, he found it difficult to get into the game.
