Rangers star Nikola Katic’s latest comments suggest the Gers are set for a big pre-season boost, with the defensive colossus ready to make his injury comeback.

Katic is a firm fan favourite at Ibrox and he made 59 appearances across his first two seasons in Glasgow following a £2m move from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018.

However, he missed the entirety of last season due to a serious knee injury, spending most of the campaign back in his native Croatia doing rehab work.

The 24-year-old returned to Rangers in May, though, and took part in the trophy day celebrations before continuing to work hard on his conditioning, sharing impressive workout pictures on Instagram from Auchenhowie and a post-season holiday.

He hasn’t taken part in a full training session since picking up his injury, but excitingly for supporters, it looks as though that’s set to change when pre-season gets underway.

“That’s right, the injury has healed,” he replied when asked if he was ready to rejoin his teammates [tportal]. “There were some complications, I even went for three surgeries, but now everything is OK.”

The return of Katic is something supporters have been looking forward to and it looks like he’s going to get the benefit of a full pre-season as he bids to get back up to speed after a long period on the sidelines.

He has a lot of work to do to move above the likes of Filip Helander and Leon Balogun in the pecking order after all of their strong performances last season, but Gerrard is a big fan of the powerful Croatian and he’ll likely receive chances to stake his claim before competitive fixtures begin.

Another Gers defender who is currently overseas on loan had to deal with being dropped at the weekend, while a fellow Ger’s mystery absence continues.
