Former Rangers midfielder Billy Gilmour looks to be on the way out of Chelsea after he was reportedly cut from their first-team training camp alongside three Stamford Bridge teammates – and Rangers should launch a bid to bring the prodigious talent back to Ibrox.

Billy Gilmour, Armando Broja, Harvey Vale, and Tino Anjorin were all said to be let go from Thomas Tuchel’s squad in America, with Gilmour apparently now set to link up with Chelsea’s development squad.

While there is sure to be plenty of interest in Gilmour if Chelsea do let him move on this summer, Rangers would surely be a big draw for the Scotland star.

Despite signing a new contract over the summer, Gilmour has never really seemed to fit into Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge and spent last season out on loan at Norwich City.

This season already looks to be one too many at Chelsea for him and it would almost certainly be best for his career to move on as soon as possible.

Rangers return would be fantastic platform for Gilmour

Although a permanent move for Gilmour would likely be out of Rangers’ reach, a season-long loan move would give him a fantastic opportunity to show just what he is capable of.

Everton boss Frank Lampard is a known fan of Gilmour and would no doubt love to lure the Scotland midfielder to Goodison Park.

However, European football and the chance to challenge for trophies and titles at Ibrox can really help Gilmour’s career in the long-term, even if he doesn’t make his stay in Glasgow last more than a season.

Here are some of the key dates for Rangers next season as they look to win the Premiership title back
