Two months ago most people would have said Rangers would have a reasonably quiet January but that looks far less likely now and Ross Wilson has to face up to doubters.

Multiple players look pointed towards the exit door and Ross Wilson will have to be at his best to bring in quality.

At today’s AGM there was a admission from Douglas Park that contract talks with Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos were proving very difficult.

Michael Beale would need immediate replacements for two of the major players in his squad and quality will have to match.

That is a extremely difficult task that lands at the door of Rangers Sporting Director Ross Wilson.

Ross Wilson has a major opportunity to prove the doubters wrong

The man behind the transfers has been under severe scrutiny from fans for some of the signings made in recent years.

Wilson has stood firm on his position and what he has delivered and there may be no better time to show his mettle than in the coming months.

Rangers’ new manager Michael Beale will have targets in mind and there is a suggestion that young, energetic and technically gifted players are what he wants.

Ryan Kent is perhaps the most technically gifted player at the club and replacing the £7m man will be no mean feat.

Despite the downturn in the English winger’s form he is a vital cog in the Rangers first team and a player Beale could rely on heavily.

Alfredo Morelos’ departure also looks close as the Columbian frontman can leave for free in summer.

Glen Kamara has been subject to speculation and interest alongside Croatia international Borna Barisic.

Granted Kamara and Barisic have ready made replacements in the squad there is pressure on them to start producing on the pitch and closing down Celtic.

With pressure on club finances from court cases and legal disputes it will take every ounce of Wilson’s transfer wisdom to help Beale strengthen.

Even with critcs of his recent business Ross Wilson has brought some success stories to Rangers and that can’t be forgotten.

The task will be to find the next Bassey, Aribo or Patterson – whether they come from the market or the academy they have to be ready to go.

The rumour mill will only turn faster as January approaches but it’s clear that come the New Year all eyes will be on Ibrox.

Also – the uncomfortable Rangers truth Celtic fans are struggling to accept.
