Rangers defender Borna Barisic has been linked with a move to Serie A side Roma and the Gers should look across the city to Celtic for an idea of the sort of sum they should be demanding for the Croat.

After Celtic sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal for £25million over the summer, that’s exactly the sort of figure Rangers should be after for Barisic if Roma firm up their interest.

Ideally, Barisic won’t be sold any time soon but the simple fact is that the finances of Scottish football means that every player has a price which will force their club’s hand.

Despite picking Barisic up relatively cheaply from NK Osijek, Rangers should look to maximise any profits if he is sold – and that means looking at what players who made similar moves cost.

Tierney’s £25million to Arsenal opened the floodgates a bit in that respect and Rangers must look to get a similar fee to the injury-prone former Celtic defender.

Barisic is every bit as good as Tierney – if not better – and can seem to go more than a few weeks without picking up another injury which leaves him on the sidelines.

He’s shown his quality for Rangers in Europe and has been a regular in the Croatian starting XI since the World Cup in 2018.

If Roma – or anyone else for that matter – aren’t willing to cough up that sort of money for Barisic, then Rangers shouldn’t have any worries about keeping the left-back at Ibrox.

But if they try to low-ball Rangers and snatch Barisic on the cheap then the Light Blues only have to look to Celtic Park to see how much they should be after.
