Rangers fans were excited when the club confirmed the signing of Swedish international defender Filip Helander from Serie A side – but the defender has barely been seen since.

Helander was handed an Ibrox debut in the friendly clash against Blackburn but has yet to appear in a competitive game as the Gers get into the new campaign.

The Swede was added to the Europa League squad but the longer he’s out then the more chance the likes of Niko Katic have to impress.

Katic has been in really good form so far this season and it would probably be a bit harsh on the defender to drop him just now – but it’ll only be worse the longer he maintains this form.

Given how long Helander has been at Ibrox now, you would think he’s at least up to speed enough to have taken a place on the bench at the weekend but GeorgeEdmundson was given a place in the 18 instead.

He could finally come out of storage when Rangers face FC Midtjylland on Thursday at Ibrox and fans will no doubt be excited at the prospect of seeing him in a game that matters.
