Rangers could be set to receive bids for a number of players this summer as clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of the new campaign – but if the Gers are going to sell they need to buck a recent trend at Ibrox and maximise the value of any departures.

Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier and Scott Arfield have all been subject to reported interest from clubs over recent months and could be just a few of the players who could depart this summer.

But if they, or anyone else, is sold this summer then Rangers can’t revert to type and make a mess of it and leave themselves looking for scraps.

Too often in the past clubs have been sniffing around players at Ibrox only for the Gers to rebuff their interest and be left with a player they can’t get rid of for love nor money six months later.

While few fans will want to see the likes of Morelos depart in the summer, a massive bid would be incredibly tempting for Rangers and give Steven Gerrard funds to strengthen his side.

One thing Rangers can’t do is hold on to someone too long and end up costing themselves millions in the process.

Every player ultimately has a price – even if it’s one the club are reluctant to see met.
