Rangers defender Borna Barisic looks to have been thrown an Ibrox lifeline by Gers boss Steven Gerrard after it looked like his short time in Scottish football was drawing to a close – and the Croatian international has a fantastic chance to prove his doubters wrong after a disappointing debut campaign for the Light Blues.

Barisic seems to have been given the chance to show he deserves a regular first-team place after starting the Europa League clash with St. Joseph’s and putting in an impressive performance against the minnows.

Most fans though Gerrard would delve into the transfer market this summer and look to replace Barisic after axing the defender from the side last season and using Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan at left-back.

So far though, Gerrard has stuck with Barisic through pre-season and into the competitive games and the Gers boss even singled him out for praise after Tuesday’s 4-0 win in Gibraltar.

A goal and an assist in the British Overseas Territory will have done his confidence the world of good after an injury-hit debut season and hopefully the Croatian can build on that.

His performances for his national team show there’s a player there but, for whatever reason, it just hasn’t happened for him at Ibrox yet.

With Gerrard seemingly keeping faith in him, it’s now up to Barisic to prove his critics wrong and show just how good he can be.
