It’s here. What football fans all over Europe have been waiting for, the January transfer window.
Its that time of year when you hope your side can capture the signature of that one player who will make all the difference, we Rangers supporters are no different.
So to get you all in the transfer mood I have picked out the best of Rangers winter transfer business, and over the next two days I will present them to you.
SOTORIOS KYRGIAKOS : JANUARY 2005
Alex McLeish, didn’t do particularly well in the January transfer window, he signed his fare share of duds but did get this one right. Seeking a replacement with both Jean-Alain Boumsong and Craig Moore departing at the windows opening, Rangers were in fast need of centre back with only Marvin Andrews, and Bob Malcolm on the books.
Signing on in another initial six mouth loan deal from Panathinaikos, this was player the Rangers fans knew little about, outwith the time he had played against the Ibrox side in the Champions League.
What we got was a dominant header of the ball who was prone to rash challenges and the odd lapse in concentration, in not to dissimilar fashion to a certain Italian centre back we once had.

His presence helped guide Rangers towards the title, also scoring a goal in the “Davie Cooper” cup final victory over Motherwell.
The following season after failing to agree terms with Rangers he signed on for another year, famously scoring a last minute winner against Porto in a Champions League group game. He was a good find and in his short stay proved a vital player for us. I don’t think anyone quite expected him to turn up at Liverpool a few years later, but nevertheless it was great piece of transfer business at the time.
Join me tomorrow, when I shall reveal my top bit of January transfer business by Rangers.
