Rangers take on Dundee United at Ibrox this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership and Gers boss Steven Gerrard should hand a first start to deadline day signing Scott Wright.
The winger has had a couple of cameos from the bench since moving from Aberdeen at the start of the month and, with games coming thick and fast, it would be an ideal opportunity for Wright to come into the starting XI.
The Light Blues lost Kemar Roofe to injury on Thursday night to a calf injury while Ryan Kent was named on the bench against the Belgians having complained of a knee issue in the days prior.
While it’s hardly close to an injury crisis – Gerrard still has Ianis Hagi, Scott Wright, Greg Stewart, Jermain Defoe, Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten, and Joe Aribo all competing for places in the front three – a home tie against the Arabs should allow Gerrard to make some changes.
Wright has looked lively in his appearances from the bench so far and the former Aberdeen star is keen to impress and show what he can bring to the side if given a chance.
The 23-year-old made 17 league appearances for Aberdeen in the first part of the season, scoring twice, and will likely see plenty of minutes before the season is over.
With the Gers within touching distance of the title but also needing to be at their best for the Europa League, getting Wright up to speed this afternoon would make a lot of sense for Rangers.
A home game against the team sitting in seventh place in the table shouldn’t offer much threat to the Gers and bringing Wright in for his maiden start would let the likes of Ryan Kent get a breather ahead of more important games still to come.
