Rangers haven’t had many stand-out performers this season compared to last, however, Joe Aribo has arguably been the Ibrox side’s most consistent player throughout the previous five months.
The Nigeria international showed plenty of promise when he arrived at the club in the summer of 2019 from Charlton Athletic and the supporters knew that we had a rough diamond in our hands.
The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength during his time at the club, although consistency has always been a problem.
The midfielder would have one excellent match, then follow this with a series of below-par performances.
This season has been totally different, though, with Aribo maturing into the side and dragging the club through some sticky patches, especially earlier on in the campaign when we were struggling to gain momentum.
He really took the bull by the horns and even though performances weren’t always great, we would grind out wins.
Steven Gerrard played Aribo in a variety of positions whilst he oversaw the club. Under Giovanni van Bronkchorst however, it feels like he has been unshackled and has been given a more creative role in the team.
This has worked wonders, as the mercurial star played a starring role in the Dutchman’s excellent start to life as Rangers manager.
With four league goals already this season, he is on course to beat his previous record of seven from our title-winning campaign [Transfermarkt]
If the 25-year-old maintains his current form for Rangers this season, there will surely be a long queue of potential suitors ready to make a move.
With only 18 months on his current contract, van Bronchhorst will need to act quickly so that when the time does come that Aribo will inevitably leave, then we need to make sure the club can get the best price for him.
Whatever happens, it has been fantastic to see a player utilise their potential and star for the team. Long may it continue as we aim for glory on three fronts.
